Hey there!
To be honest, I’m not really a fan of Aiman Azlan. I
remembered the last time he came to my school. I wasn’t really satisfied with
the answers he spoke out during the last. The answers are rather simple and
general. But of course I wouldn’t judge because even if I myself am on that
stage, only given 2 minutes minimum of answering the question, it won’t be my
best. Public speaking experience proves it.
It sounds tragic, but sadly true.
Anyways, I don’t know why I’m suddenly attracted to this
book and lucky me, it’s written by him and Ameen Misran. I have to tell you
that I’ve fallen deeply into it because to be honest, I’ve never been so
excited to have my thoughts readily in a book. Almost had the urge to give up
blogging cause everything I’d ever thought of is in a single piece of book.  Exactly, but of course he’s more advanced for
sure. I won’t stop laughing and murmur things like;
‘oh man! I was
thinking that way too!’
’haha so true right?’
’you must be a guy
version of me!’
But really, I’d pick out some parts of the book here.
Really, it’s a high recommended book for teenagers. Seriously, it’s a book
explaining how a different perception of the way we look in life can make a
change.
Fear of Sincerity. (pg13)
My heart can’t stay still but I try my best to always be
aware of when my heart is going somewhere it is not supposed to go. I always
fear I’m not sincere, but I am hopeful. I don’t fear it too much up to a point
I don’t do anything at all. Some people might say ‘What’s the point of doing it
if you’re not sincere?”.
I beg to differ.
Doing what you should do and pursuing sincerity must go hand in hand, not one
after the other.
Diversity in Intelligence (pg46)
Intelligence, like people and knowledge, is diverse. Is it
impossible to fit everyone into a small box, then why is it that we try to fit everyone
into a narrow conception of intelligence? The current mainstream education
system doesn’t account for the many dimensions of intelligence that exist. Everyone is ‘brainwashed’ into thinking that
the only intelligence is the intelligence in the narrow set of subjects in
school. Beyond that, you are not considered intelligent.
Psychology and I :How we Met (pg 54)
Whenever I have the liberty in choosing a course, I choose a
course that is interesting to me. Whether the course it easy or not, it doesn’t
matter that much as long as it is interesting because if it’s interesting to
me, then I will gladly invest my time and energy in it.
My Message to Teachers and Parents (pg57)
To teachers and parents, please don’t freak your students or
children out. They are already freaking out as they are. I hear some teachers
say stuff like “SPM is not everything, but everything starts with SPM”. That is
a good twist of lines but what you are essentially saying is this “SPM IS EVERYTHING!”.
(Yes, with all caps and exclamation mark in the end) LOL.
The Illusion of Numbers. (pg 85)
Numbers, as tempting as they are, are an illusion. We
shouldn’t preoccupy ourselves with numbers. What does 40,000 likes on Facebook
and 25,000 followers on Twitter mean? Do they mean I am somewhat better than
those who have less likes? Am I more credible because I have those numbers?
If so, then riddle to me this: What about the Prophets? Some
of them had only a handful of followers and some of them had none. But they are
Prophets, the greatest human beings to ever walk on this earth. If numbers were the measuring sticks, then
where do you place them?
The First Step (pg100)
You might not necessarily have the confidence in doing the
thing that you want to do (e.g public speaking), but you should have at least
confidence in yourself. Yes, I made the distinction between confidence in what
you do with confidence it yourself.
I may not have
confidence in public speaking but I do have confidence in myself to know that I
can at least give it a shot. I can take the first step and see how it goes.
In the case of
confidence, you are your own obstacle. At the same time, you are also your motivator. You can
overcome this obstacle. Sometimes, it is easy to overcome the obstacle and
other times it is not that easy.
Am I speaking it out much? Now, just buy the bloody book. Haha, really, it’s a
good one.
