Driving Success

Hey there!

I am feeling completely happy over these past few days. Well, today it seems to ignite myself more. The moment when you feel so light you’d want to jump from the roof top and dance.

Haha nonsense Afrina. Nonsense.

Last evening was my very second class for driving practical. The story goes on when you ought to register. Then go for a 6 hour lecture as an introduction to driving. Then you have to take the computer test with the minimum of 8 mistakes only. After that you’d continue with a group of friends on an introduction of cars -you’ll have to explain and check 360 degrees of the car’s physical condition. Then you start practical by driving. 10 hours practice. 2 hours per class.

During your practical you’ll get a private tutor. They’ll teach you one-to-one. In case if you’re wondering, practical means you’d be given the chance to drive the car in the specific compound and practice these compulsory essentials.

Hill Stop. Parking. 3 Junction.

Yesterday was my first and just now was my second class –more equalized to 4 hours practice. The previous day I was taught about ‘Hill Stop’ and 3 Junctions.

Today I got a new teacher. And obviously he assumed I had gone through many classes already so he taught me about parking.

I have to say when he gave me the chance to drive for an hour without him in the car I was so excited. Excited? Yeah. Kinda felt like owning the car and imagining to go KLCC. Haha, I even took out my headphones on while practicing singing.

Aha, I feel so grown up.

Since I’ve never driven a car on the streets before, it’s really surprising to know how quickly I was able to learn about parking and all that when I’ve just had 4 hours of practice. Believe me, it was raining so heavily I couldn’t see much of a clear HD view.

Yet I told myself to relax. Mistakes are just fine when it’s the first thing to try something new. Stop wanting for perfection. But this time, with the rain and the tutor watching from afar, it’s time to make that new impression.

I can do this. I hate it when it comes to saying girls suck in driving.

Breathe slow. Turn that favourite music on. Pull down the handbrake, forward Drive G4. Stop when the tyre lands on the yellow line. Forward to Reverse. Turn the steering anticlockwise once. Place the left hand on the passengers seat, looking backwards to see the yellow brick indicating the parking space. Keep reversing. Stop when the right tyre passes through the yellow lane. Turn the steering clockwise to it’s maximum. When the cars position fits exactly in the box, turn the steering anticlockwise to it’s maximum and change the mode to Drive G4. Fits. Yes. Pull up the handbreak.

I can’t see anything. There’s too much rain pouring. That’s alright. Keep going.

The tutors are watching me. I can do it. I can do it.

I failed to make a very first good impression on towards my Additional Maths teachers. I’m not doing the same on this one.

Turn Neutral. Locate the steering anticlockwise 270 degrees and go transfer to Reverse mode. Stare from the side mirror and make sure it doesn’t exceed the yellow box. Turn steering wheel to its maximum clockwise and Drive forward. Adjust the steering to the left when half of the car is out of the parking box. And out I go.

Yes. Alhamdulillah.

The tutor ran towards my car after that and asked me how many practical classes I’ve gone so far.

I told him twice. This was my second.

Eyes wide, he said “This is your second? Seriously? It’s such a waste to be teaching you all this since there’s nothing left to learn. You’ve passed all 3 aspects. Very impressive. You’ll be driving on the streets by next class”.

I swear I wanted to dance in the rain.
