First Day of Ramadhan

Firstly before I start, do read my confession below

MAN TARAWIH WAS SO LONG IT LASTED TILL 10.40 p.m BUT ALHAMDULILLAH I MADE IT

Trust me, luckily they gave a talk in between the 4 rakaats as well as having a wonderful voice on the Quran’ recitation.

Do you know what makes Ramadhan beautiful to you? There’s too much to describe.

But personally from what I am going through now on my first day of Ramadhan, it’s just starting and yet I am never much this happy as a part of being a Muslim.

Because Muslims in my university are rather a minority and this makes us more special. Not, left out
.
Sahur was the best part so far. I have a little egg boiler yet I have no idea how to use it but the thing was I got up late. I dabbed butter on the bread and prayed hard my eggs would be half boiled.

First attempt was a failure but an entertainment to my friends.

I thought it was boiled but when I cracked it opened it was still in a fluid form so the table was a mess. My friends laughed, but really I was in a rush to chase time. I laughed anyway for being clumsy.

In foundation science (my course), we have this group in whatsapp where we talk from nonsense to where class is held at and guess what?

81 students, Muslims or Malays are only 10 students.

Yet, last morning the guys sent pictures of them sahur and called up everyone to wake up through whatsapp. But none of the rest 71 students mind about us talking about Ramadhan in the group –which at some point we were all looking through those who have read our conversations early subuh laughing hard. 2 non-muslim friends have woken up.

Should’ve seen during English class in the evening, a friend named Wesley reluctantly ate chocolate bar and drank coffee beside Irfan. After class when our teacher was generous enough to give us some kurmas for breaking fast, the other non-muslim friends were so guilty on eating in front of us they ended up apologizing with shocked faces for being disrespectful on us. I swear I laughed till the stomach hurts so bad.

Even during break fast, I have these very generous seniors who would everyday sometimes text me to know what will I have for lunch or etc. Now they invited me and the other foundation students to break fast with them in our mosque –which we refer to Islamic Centre. Arab rice and etc.

That was before some Chinese friends would text and wish happy Ramadhan in the most hilarious way. I can’t describe how beautiful and energetic my day was cause it feels different compared to being in MRSM.

The difference?

Instead of being in an environment to only see everyone do the same routine as you, you are really depending on your initiative to really accomplish Ramadhan full heartedly. You aren’t being forced to do halaqah, you aren’t being forced to finish the Quran’ at a fast and tiring speed. Most importantly, Islam suddenly feels universal.

People respect your religion as much as you do, perhaps not those who have reached to a certain age of independence on thinking hating Islam or etc, but teenagers, people our age. In fact, they ask you so many questions on Ramadhan that they too, get excited.

Here Arabs lead the tarawih. They don’t recite any dua’ or wirids. You do it yourself. But they always speak English when it comes to reminding each other on Ramadhan and indeed, it gives you this positive vibe that you’re actually seeing Islam in a bigger point of view.

If anyone would say ‘no, I refuse to mix around with other races or religions cause’ I am afraid  of any country-shock or am unable to take care of my deeds blablabla’, those are just silly excuses.
Believe me, the more further you are from surrounding yourself with the majority of Muslims, you’ll attain this satisfaction of wanting to be more of a better muslim version in life. No one is going to stop you. Here, go on wear black jubahs all the way, they don’t mind and as long as you’re friendly, they’ll still want to be your friend anyway.

Still, Divya (my friend) had me involved on talking about chocolates after class without knowing I was fasting. Haha.

Anyway, let me tell you a slight reminder of the day aite?

“It’s an acknowledgement when Allah grants us with the month of Ramadhan. To understand the fact that He the Al-Mighty knows our intentions to reflect ourselves and change despite of our own major focus to succeed for dunia’.

Why Ramadhan is only a month? Why not 2/3 months instead? It’ll be easier to get more deeds and attain limitless time.

Because He knows EVERYONE can bear to change their personal life towards Him as well as positivity within just a month time.

For example, examination test. Lecturers rationalize the amount time to make sure students can grasp the answers of the test. Isn’t it similar to Allah planning to give us with the correct and valid period of time to change to become better?"

This is a month to rejuvenate your soul, cleanse and purify it; seek His abundant Mercy. So make use of it, to the fullest. Better yourself. For Him. For yourself.

Haha, anyway, let’s hope I wake up early to not break any unboiled eggs again :P
